Australia and New Zealand are introducing the RCM mark (Regulatory Compliance Mark) to realize the unified identification of electrical products. This mark is a trademark owned by the regulatory agencies of Australia and New Zealand, indicating that the product meets both safety regulations and EMC requirements, which is not mandatory. After the product has obtained safety certification and electromagnetic compatibility registration, it can apply for the use of the RCM mark through the regulatory agency that issued the safety certification or "RCM Registrar" (Standards Australia).

RCM is considered to be an appropriate logo, which will change the past or current situation where the three marks C-Tick, A-Tick, and RCM coexist. It was originally scheduled to start on September 1, 2013 (now postponed to March 1, 2014) Day) RCM will be used as the only unified logo to show that the product meets the requirements of ACMA and ERAC.

In a nutshell, RCM certification must include:

From March 1, 2013, products must be registered and filed in the Australian national database EESS and printed with the RCM logo before they can be sold in the market. SAA certification and C-Tick certification will be phased out and replaced by RCM certification, which covers safety regulations and EMC (C-Tick may still be applicable to some low-power wireless products).

From January 1, 2016, the 3-year transition period ends, and the RCM logo will be fully enforced. Products that are not registered and affixed with the RCM logo will not be allowed to be sold in the market.

What products need to do RCMcertified？

1. Safety (product safety certification):

Product safety certification includes two parts: electrical products are divided into regulated electrical products (Prescribed Product) and non-regulated products (Non-prescribed product).

1). Controlled electrical products are classified according to AS/NZS4417.2, including electric heating equipment, refrigeration equipment, electric tools, parts and components, etc.

2). Non-regulated electrical appliances can be sold directly without certification, but the manufacturer must ensure that the electrical safety of the product complies with the Australian standard AS/NZS3820:1998 (Essential Safety Requirements for Low Voltage Electrical Equipment); .

2. EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility)

Australia's Electromagnetic Compatibility Compliance Program is formulated in accordance with the 1992 Radio Communications Act (Radio Communications ACT 1992) and covers a wide range of products, including electric motor-driven and heating electrical products, power tools and similar products, lamps and similar equipment, TV receivers and audio equipment, information technology products, industrial science and medical equipment, ignition engines and arc welding equipment, etc. The plan divides products into three categories according to the degree of danger of electromagnetic interference produced by the products. The second and third categories of products must be marked with C-Tick. But no matter which category the product belongs to, it must meet the relevant EMC standards.

Class I products: Products that have only a slight impact on devices that use the wireless spectrum, such as manual switches, simple relays, brushless squirrel-cage induction motors, AC power/power transformers, resistors, etc. Such products can voluntarily apply for the use of the C-Tick mark when they are produced and sold.

Class II products: products that have a greater impact on devices that use wireless spectrum, such as microprocessors or digital devices connected to clocks, rectifiers or slip-ring motors, arc welding equipment, switching power supplies, photometers, and motors Telecommunications terminal equipment in the category of speed controllers, information technology (CISPR 22) (from the third category to the second category since November 7, 2003).
